Dr. Azam Yusuf is currently Consultant General Surgeon & Head of Surgery Dept. at Sheikh Khalifa General Hospital, Umm Al Quwain since 2013.
He was Consultant General & Laparoscopic Surgeon in Saudi German Hospital, Dubai for one year before he joined SKGH.
Prof. Azam Yusuf was Professor of Surgery in Rawalpindi Medical College; Examiner in University of Health Sciences & Head of Surgery Dept. in a tertiary care public teaching hospital in Pakistan before he came to UAE four years back.
He has a vast operative experience in General Surgery of more than 30 years. He was pioneer of Laparoscopic Surgery in his hospital in Pakistan, which he started in 1994.
He graduated from King Edward Medical College, Lahore in 1978 & got his initial surgical training for 8 years in Mayo Hospital, Lahore the largest Teaching Hospital in Pakistan.
Dr. Yusuf got his Fellowship in Surgery from the Pakistan College of Surgeons & Physicians (FCPS) in 1985. In 1988 he proceeded to UK, where he worked for 2 years & acquired ‘Certificate of Surgical Training’ from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1990. He also acquired his Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS) in 1989.
On his return to Pakistan, he was appointed as Assistant Professor of Surgery in Rawalpindi Medical College in 1990 & after 15 years, he became Professor of Surgery in the year 2005.
Dr. Azam Yusuf has more than 25 years of Teaching Experience. He has taught thousands of Medical Students & trained hundreds of Surgical Trainees now working in Pakistan and different countries including UAE.
For the last 10 years before he came to UAE, he was Examiner for the Fellowship in Surgery (FCPS) as well as for undergraduate medical students in different medical schools in Pakistan.
He was Supervisor of ‘Surgeons in Training’ and 20 of his Postgraduate Surgical Trainees have achieved Fellowships in Surgery (FCPS). He has conducted number of Workshops on Surgical Skills & Laparoscopic Surgery.
He is author & co-author of 25 published papers in Medical Journals in Pakistan. In 2010, he revised the whole Surgery Curriculum & Time Table which is being currently used in his Medical School.
He was assessor of Dissertations & Thesis for Fellowship & Masters in Surgery. He is on the editorial board of different Medical Journals to review articles before publication. He has also conducted number of Educational Workshops
